History of the English Lop
The English Lop is the original lop breed and the oldest of specialty breeds. All other lop breeds are descendants of the English Lop. Although, the exact origin of the English Lop is not well known, it was adopted by England and breed specifically for showing and companionship.

The English Lop is well known for its personality! English Lops are sweet, loving, playful, silly... I could keep going, but it's a long list. They have a great disposition that makes them excellent pets, even with small children. English Lops are very social, and easily trained.
The English Lops short coat means little brushing is needed. However, the long ears of an English Lop should be checked for dirt and wax build up regularly. It is also very important to trim an English Lops nails regularly to prevent scratching the ears.

General Description of the English Lop
In profile the English Lop should have a "Mandolin" shape. English Lops should have well developed hindquarters, midsection, and shoulders. The body top line of an English Lop should have a well defined arch, starting at the back of the shoulders, rising to a high point over the center of the hips, and rounding off to a full hindquarter. The English Lops ears should hang loose and close to the body. English lops have a minimum ear length requirement of 21 inches with a world record of over 31 inches, and the width of the ears should be a quarter of the length. Substance, texture, shape, and condition all are important aspects of the English Lops ears as well.
